All you need to know about spiritual astrology

The Sanskrit term for spiritual astrology is ‘Jyotish’. Spiritual astrology holds the belief that the primary source of Jyotish knowledge emanates from the all-powerful Creator and the divine. Furthermore, spiritual astrology explains that the patterns of nature and the universe are the same as the patterns of our consciousness and how one is related to the other.

According to spiritual astrology or Jyotish, our ‘Prana’ that is our life energy makes its movement through the centres of our astral or planetary body. In the same way that the Sun moves across the different zodiac constellations. Hence the planets are believed to be located in the high energy centres or the ‘chakras’ of your astral body as well as in the signs of your birth chart.

Birth Charts and Spiritual Practices

A birth chart with a strong presence of the Sun says that such a person is endowed with strong will and discipline so would do well in spiritual practices.

The moon is generally associated with sensitivity and emotions. A person with a birth chart with a strong moon presence indicates nurturing and devotional spiritual practices.

In spiritual astrology, the Red Planet is associated with high energy. Therefore, a horoscope with strong Mars indicates a person who requires to channel all the energy towards spiritual growth.

Horoscopes with strong Jupiter, with the proper support and proficient spiritual teacher, will do well in the conventional practice of spirituality.

A strong presence on the planet Saturn indicates a person who would follow a selfless path towards service or ‘karma yoga’.

A strong Venus on a birth chart generally implies that the person should serve God through art, hard work or worship. Therefore, people with a strong presence of Venus make for good priests, one who has dedicated his or her whole life to the service and worship of God.

The Houses of Spirituality in Astrology

Among the twelve houses as represented in your birth chart, the houses associated with spiritual astrology are –

Ascendent

Also referred to as Lagna, the ascendant is the first and the most crucial house depicted in your birth chart. Astrologers assign a great deal of importance to ascendents as they believe it to be the key to unlocking a person’s personality and character traits and the influence the planets and stars will have on the person’s life. The strength of the Lagna determines the strength of a person’s character, the disposition of the person, and the person’s life path.

The Fifth and the Ninth House

The fifth house in your birth chart represents your intellect and stored karma. The fifth also shows you the way towards using your intelligence for spiritual growth.

The ninth house in your birth chart is referred to as the house of higher learning and the house of philosophy.

To gain insight into a person’s spiritual prospects, these two birth chart houses are studied together.

Twelfth House

The twelfth house in spiritual astrology is said to be the house of salvation or ‘moksha’. This house is also studied to find out the soul’s journey after the death of the body and to find out the remaining number of rebirths left in the karmic cycle before the final salvation is attained.

Deducing spiritual inclination using an astrological combination

Spirituality is not an object that can be bought or something that can be accessed and got instantly. Instead, spirituality is like planting a seed, and caring for it, so that the seed grows and bears fruits over time. So if you are curious to know whether you possess spiritual inclinations or not, you can find out through the following astrological combinations and positions.

  • The positions of the lords of the fifth and the ninth house.
  • The position of the two planets – Jupiter and Saturn.
  • Studying the planets that are causing problems in the fourth house of the birth chart may lead the person to seek renunciation from all worldly life.
  • Association between the first, fifth and ninth Dharma houses with the fourth, eighth and twelfth houses of Moksha reflect a spiritual inclination in a person.
  • The conjunction of the planet Jupiter with the Sun makes a person lean towards the construction of places for worship.
  • When there is an association of planet Venus in Leo or Virgo with a strong connection to the planet Jupiter frees a person from lustful and immoral thoughts, inclining the person towards spirituality.

Conclusion

When one looks at the world, the universe, and its role in it all, one is filled with more questions than answers. Spiritual astrology provides a medium through which one can hope to find answers to these questions and try to make sense of it all.
