Your Guide to Important “Stargirl” Characters

“Stargirl” is an exciting teen superhero drama that you will want to binge as soon as possible. The current episodes are streaming on HBO Max and a new season will air later this year. Jumping into an entirely new series can sometimes be challenging, especially when there are many different characters and superhero alter-egos. Here is your guide to the important “Stargirl” characters, so you can start catching up on the series.

Courtney Whitmore

Executive produced by Geoff Johns, “Stargirl” is the story of Courtney Whitmore, a typical American high school student. She is an athlete and has just moved from California to Nebraska with her family. She has struggled with leaving her school and friends behind. She finds the Cosmic Staff of Starman in her basement and learns that her step-father, Pat, was once Starman’s sidekick. She becomes Stargirl and forms a new Justice Society of America with other superheroes.

Pat Dugan

Pat Dugan is a mechanic who marries Courtney’s mother, Barbara. He is Mike’s father and Courtney’s step-father. Prior to Starman’s death at the hands of the evil Injustice Society of America, Pat was his sidekick. Pat was known as “Stripesy.” After Starman was killed, Pat retired but vowed to get revenge against the ISA. He followed the trail to Nebraska, where he met Barbara. After Courtney discovers the Cosmic Staff, Pat comes out of retirement to help her and reinvents himself as the operator of a robot known as “S.T.R.I.P.E.”

Yolanda Montez

Yolanda is one of Courtney’s friends and a member of the new Justice Society of America. She is a diligent student who is extremely popular until her boyfriend sends revealing pictures of her to the entire school, thus making her a social outcast. After meeting Courtney, Yolanda ultimately becomes the second Wildcat. She has special powers when using her Wildcat suit. These include claws and the ability to climb walls. She also has superhuman agility, balance and reflexes when wearing the suit. Yolanda is an accomplished boxer and uses this ability to her advantage when she is fighting.

Rick Tyler

Rick Tyler is another member of the new Justice Society of America and one of Courtney’s friends. He is a troublesome student and lost his parents at a young age. He adopts the persona of Hourman, which was originally his father’s superhero alter-ego before his death at the hands of the ISA. His hourglass gives him the ability to have special powers, including agility, speed and superstrength, for one hour.

Beth Chapel

Beth is the fourth member of the Justice Society of America and uses the alter-ego of “Doctor Mid-Nite.” Beth is a straight-A student and her social life suffers because of this until she meets Courtney, Yolanda and Rick. She utilizes a pair of special goggles which give her special powers, including enhanced vision, lie detection, weather prediction and decryption. Unlike the other members of the new JSA, Beth does not have superhuman physical abilities but relies instead relies heavily on her intellect.
